Virgin Media: Vivid House Party

Virgin Media's first VR campaign: a live-action stereo 360 film with a moving camera, the first UK brand story told that way, made with Manning Gottlieb OMD and Jaunt VR.

What it was

An extension of the VIVID 200 house party television ads and 360 digital campaign, the film puts the viewer inside a Virgin Media party and leads them through the crowd towards the DJ, greeted by the partygoers on the way. When an accident brings the party to a halt the viewer restarts it through Spotify on VIVID 200 broadband. Virgin Media was the first major UK advertiser to tell a brand story from its TV campaign using live-action film and a moving VR camera. Directed by Steven Boyle; produced by Adam May, with Matthew Smith on VR camera. It won the Drum Search Award for Best Consumer Products/Services Campaign.

Technical approach

Shooting, direction and post production by Vision3 in collaboration with Jaunt VR, with the colour grade in Vision3's VR grading suite. The camera moved through the party on a robotic buggy, a UK first for a VR film, combined with motion graphics and 3D sound.
