Song of The Sea

The Great Seanachai, the storyteller, among his hair of stories, in Song of the Sea VR

Cartoon Saloon's Oscar-nominated hand-drawn feature taken into interactive VR for Oculus, with Norlum and Vision3. Best Interactive VR Experience at the 2017 AIS Awards Europe.

What it was

Song of the Sea VR puts you inside the Great Storyteller's Cavern from Cartoon Saloon's film, with the Storyteller himself, to unravel the story of the Selkie and how the fate of the faeries is tied to hers. Find the hidden key and the piece takes you underwater among jellyfish, anemones and shoals of fish under moonlit waves, and on Saoirse's excursion with the seals. Directed by Tomm Moore and Jericca Cleland, it was a collaboration between Oculus and Cartoon Saloon with Norlum and Vision3.

Technical approach

Angus Cameron was VR supervisor and Elliott Round VR designer.
