David Attenborough stays behind after closing time and the museum's exhibits come to life. Shot native stereo over several weeks after dark; Best 3D Documentary.

What it was

In Natural History Museum Alive, David Attenborough stays in the Natural History Museum after closing time and its most famous exhibits return to life, a collaboration between the production, historians and the museum's curators. It won Best 3D Documentary at the International 3D Society Awards and Vision3 was among the BAFTA nominees for Special, Visual and Graphic Effects.

Technical approach

Chris Parks and the Vision3 team shot native stereo in the museum over several weeks after dark, finding ways to capture the building itself. Working with the VFX company Zoo, the stereo was designed so that the CG dinosaurs, reptiles and giant mammals sat convincingly in the real halls. Angus Cameron supervised the stereo through post production. Produced by Anthony Geffen; directed by Dan Smith.
