Magic Silver II
Norway's first natively shot stereo 3D feature: blue gnomes, a mine-cart chase and a shoot in mountain caves and sub-zero snow.
What it was
Magic Silver II, from Storm Rosenberg Films, was a big hit with Norwegian audiences when it opened in 2011 and the country's first natively shot stereo feature. A storybook fantasy for younger viewers, it let the stereo be designed with children in mind and without the need for a realistic register, making the most of the fantasy sets and costumes. Directed by Arne Lindtner Næss; Matthew Smith was stereographer.
Technical approach
Shot on RED cameras in stereo rigs on location deep in mountain caves and in snow at extreme sub-zero temperatures. The team adapted the rigs and the routine to the cold to keep the shoot on a tight schedule.
