Kate Moss falling through a cloud of glass shards, in KM3D

Kate Moss for AnOther Magazine, directed by Baillie Walsh and shot by John Mathieson on Phantom cameras in native stereo at a thousand frames a second.

What it was

An abstract stereo piece with Kate Moss, directed by Baillie Walsh for AnOther Magazine and shot by John Mathieson. It blends high-speed photography, VFX and stereography, and it is the film Vision3 turns to when it wants to show how dynamic stereo can be.

Technical approach

Filmed on Phantom cameras in stereo at 1000 frames a second. Melissa Byers and Angus Cameron worked with Walsh to push negative parallax to its limit, bringing diamonds far off the screen towards the audience. The forward movement was planned and controlled so that the eye had time to adjust before the climax, where fragments of glass travel well beyond the distance a feature would normally allow.

In their words

  • Made with state-of-the-art Phantom cameras, specially built for the project to create extreme slow motion and a dramatic 3D effect, KM3D-1 reflects AnOther Magazine's raison d'etre: to champion creatives pushing the limits of what seems possible.
