Giselle VR

English National Ballet's Giselle, choreographed by Akram Khan, as a stereo 360 film for the launch of the Sky VR app.

What it was

Factory 42 and English National Ballet made Giselle as a stereo 360 film, with Tamara Rojo as Giselle, a migrant factory worker, in Akram Khan's choreography. It featured prominently in the launch of the Sky VR app and was covered by Wired, The Guardian and Variety at the time.

Technical approach

Angus Cameron supervised the VR through post production with director Dan Smith and producer John Cassy, finishing stereo 360 for the headset so that the audience sat as close to the performance as the format allows.

In their words

  • "It blows my mind that with VR we can place viewers not only inside a film or world as a passive being but also give them interactivity."
