3D Creative Summit reignites the excitement!

 

Across 2 Days at the BFI Southbank, London held host to the leading names in 3D from the UK and across the world.

The event was presented by the International 3D Society and Ravensbourne College, and sponsored by Creative Skillset, Sky3D, Deluxe, Onsight, Vision3, Meduza and SGO. With Screen International as Media Partner.

Highlights from the Summit included a call to arms for creative 3D from Oscar Award Winning Director Ang Lee, during his live telecast interview from New York. 

David Attenborough showcased a collection of some of the best material from Flying Monsters, The Penguin King, Kingdom of Plants, and screened a special preview of his next production - Micro Monsters

Dreamworks Animation's Phil 'Captain 3D' McNally took us on at journey through some of the amazing stereo work to come out of DWA - and share with the audience personal clips that brought him to 3D originally.

And the Summit screened 'Jack The Giant Slayer', followed by a Q&A with Vision3' Chris Parks.

Plus in depth sessions showcasing work from Sky, the BBC, 20th Century Fox, Disney Animation, Park Road Post, Aardman Animation, and more.

The 3D Creative Summit was also proud to hold the inaugural 3D Producer's Lab, offering 15 Producers unique access to leading figures in the 3D Film and Broadcast industry.

Jack The Giant Slayer lands in the UK

The Warner Bros adventure hit UK cinemas 22nd March, after topping the US Box Office.

The 3D film directed by Bryan Singer, film stars Nicholas Hoult, Bill Nighy, Ian McShane and Ewan McGregor.
Vision3 were the stereoscopic team behind the film, led by Chris Parks as the main unit stereographer and Matt Smith as 2nd Unit Stereographer.

The clever use of 3D in particular was featured in several articles and reviews of the film.

Inside the Mind of Leonardo UK TV Premier Announced

The inspiring world of Leonard da Vinci is brought to life by acclaimed BAFTA winning actor Peter Capaldi in a unique 3D dramatised documentary Inside the Mind of Leonardo. Based on the artist’s private journals dating from the Italian Renaissance, the feature will receive its UK television premiere on Sunday 24th March at 9pm on Sky Arts 2 HD, Sky 3D and Sky Go.

Vision3’s Chris Parks was the Stereo Supervisor; Matthew Smith took on the combined role of Stereographer and DOP, while Angus Cameron worked as the VFX supervisor and Post Stereographer.

Life of Pi scoops 3 awards at 3D Creative Arts Awards

The International 3D Society’s Creative Arts Awards ceremony held at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Wednesday saw Ang Lee’s Life of Pi collect awards in three different categories; best live action 3D feature, best stereography in a live-action film and 3D moment of the year. Lee was also honoured with the Harold Lloyd Filmmaker Award, presented by Lloyd’s granddaughter Suzanne Lloyd and society co-chairman Tom Cosgrove, CEO of 3net. Lee joins a prestigious group of 3D film makers who have received this award, with previous recipients including Martin Scorsese and James Cameron.

Pixar Animation Studios picked up two awards for Brave; best Animated 3D Feature and best Stereography in an Animated Feature. The best 3D Documentary award went to Storm Surfers an Australian feature documentary following big wave surfers.  The 3D Live Event award was given to Paramount Pictures for Katy Perry: Part of Me, while Panasonic received the society’s Century Award for its support if the 2012 Summer Olympic Games 3D broadcasts from London.

The annual awards ceremony, now in its fourth year, bestows a total of 25 awards for “distinguished achievement” in 3D creative content in both feature film and broadcast categories. “Our theme for the night was ‘Our Story Begins.’ Our honourees demonstrated that 3D is really just beginning to tell its story. But, the quality and breadth of content is very impressive,” said Society President, Jim Chabin.

Vision3’s Adam May speaking at Canada’s ‘3D FWD’ Conference

The Canadian chapter of the International 3D Society will be holding a two day 3D conference in Vancouver on the 24th and 25th of January. 3D [FWD] will bring together 3D experts from around the globe to explore emerging 3D concepts and tools.

Vision3’s Adam May has been invited to appear on a panel entitled “Telling Your Story in 3D” and will be discussing what to consider when conceiving, developing and creating a 3D project. He will appear with Disney’s Robert Neuman and Pixar’s Joshua Hollander, with the session moderate by Buzz Hays.
